Leena and I have been married for 8 years now, and we dated for about two years before that. But except for the past week and a half in New York City, all of our time together was in Pune, India (unless you count that once she came with her brother to pick me up from the airport in Mumbai).
India is a country where it's not against the law, but couples holding hands in public run the risk of being beaten up by police for behaving in such an indecent manner. Pune is more liberal, but it's still not really appropriate and the few times we ever held hands lots and lots of men stared openly at us.
Now that Leena's finally made it to New York, where I've been for nearly two years, we're spending a lot of time out and about together. Occasionally we hold hands, but it feels very weird. Our grip is clumsy and it doesn't feel very natural, no matter how many other couples I see...
It'll take time, I guess.
